To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we’re shining a spotlight our most recent apprentice who has joined the team here at Metricell. Apprenticeships play an important role in developing future talent, and we’re really pleased to have Sydney as part of our team. Below, Sydney shares a bit more about her role, her experience so far and what she’s looking forward to as she continues her apprenticeship journey.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day involves managing emails, posting supplier invoices, processing personal expense claims and handling credit card expenses. I also support general finance tasks to help keep everything running smoothly.
What are some of the key responsibilities in your role, and what skills or qualities do you think are most important?
My key responsibilities include invoice processing, managing Revolut and NatWest credit cards, locating missing invoices, handling Tesco orders, reviewing customer and supplier statements, reposting purchase orders, chasing credit card expense information, approving POs and providing office support. Organisation, attention to detail, good communication and a willingness to learn are all essential skills in my role.
What made you choose an apprenticeship as your next step?
I wanted hands-on, in-person experience alongside learning, as I felt this would be the best way to develop real skills and confidence in the workplace.
What attracted you to this role and to joining Metricell?
I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers and problem-solving, as it feels really rewarding. I studied double Business at college and found finance to be my favourite part. Metricell stood out as a fantastic opportunity—after reading about the company and attending my first interview, I knew it was exactly what I wanted. Not only is the role exciting, but the people are amazing too.
What are you most looking forward to learning or developing once your course begins?
I’m most looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of finance and developing stronger accounting skills to support my role and future career.
What has your experience been like so far in the office?
My experience has been really positive. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable, and it’s great to see how different departments work together. Metricell is the perfect-sized company to learn from others and interact across teams.
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship route?
I’d say it’s incredibly rewarding and to jump at the opportunity. It’s a great way to gain experience while learning and to really figure out what you want to do long term.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work, and how do you balance work and personal life?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my animals. I also love sewing clothes and creating my own designs, as well as going out and socialising. I balance work and personal life by staying organised during the working day and making sure I set aside time in the evenings and weekends to focus on the things I enjoy, which helps me switch off, recharge, and stay motivated at work.
What are you most looking forward to in your role this year?
I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibility within my role and continuing to build deeper knowledge and experience in finance.
We’re delighted to have Sydney on the team and to support her as she develops her skills and builds her career in finance. Her enthusiasm, willingness to learn and positive approach already make a real difference, and we’re excited to see how she continues to grow over the year ahead.

I absolutely thrive on the independence I have in decision-making, and our management team is fantastic at providing support and guidance whenever needed. It's truly a joy to be part of such a vibrant and supportive team where my inputs are valued and my concerns are heard.
