What do you do at Metricell?
At Metricell, I am one of the Data Analysts. I engage with an array of different tasks and work on multiple different projects. At Metricell, being a data analyst is important for making data-driven decisions, product development and identifying trends and patterns.
How did you come to work at Metricell and how long have you been here?
I was initially employed to assist with the BT New Homes Project. This project focused on identifying newly constructed areas where broadband services needed targeting and expansion. I also then started to assist with other projects mostly in-house and have been at Metricell for over three years.
What did you study at school?
For A – Levels I took maths, further maths and biology. After A-Levels I then decided to go to the University of Greenwich where I studied maths with economics.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Growing up I always wanted to be a musician; this came from the influence of my dad who plays the drums in cover bands. When I was around 7 years old, he showed me a simple drum beat and fill on a Yamaha DD-75 kit, and then when I was around 11 years old, I taught myself how to play the guitar. Music is an important part of my life, and I still play to this day. I also play other instruments like the bass, the piano and a synthesiser.
What project/piece of work are you most proud of during your time at Metricell?
There are a few projects that I have been proud of whilst working at Metricell. For example, on the maths side, I would say designing an algorithm to find the locations of base stations using data collected from mobile devices, as well as automating the route planning process for the Home Office project. I am also proud of designing the reporting and analysis systems for NextWave, contributing analyses for GigaNet’s fibre network rollout in the South of England and other ad-hoc reporting were deemed necessary.
What is your favourite work perk?
Definitely the office snacks and drinks. They are a nice treat throughout the day when I’m in the office, which is always helpful when you have a sweet tooth.
What motivates you?
Trying to make a good difference, not only in my work at Metricell, but in life in general.
What is the best advice you can give someone who wants to work for us?
Metricell offers incredible opportunities for apprentices, graduates, early-career and seasoned professionals. Check out the Careers at Metricell page on our website for openings and put your best foot forward. Get in touch and find out what we have to offer.
How do you unwind after a working day?
I like to relax with all things music, so that would be listening to music, playing one of my instruments or learning a new piece.
Which actor would you want to play you in the movie about your life?
Jason Momoa. I think he has the physical attributes (ha!).
And what's the most exciting thing you're currently working on?
My progression with the IMA. The IMA is the Institute of Maths and its Applications. I've been a member with them for around three years now. The work I do at Metricell contributes to progression inside the IMA. To get into the IMA you just need a maths degree, and they will offer a range of schemes for progression. So being a member helps with my professional development and you can also progress from an associate member to a member which allows you to become a chartered mathematician.
What 3 apps can you not live without?
Spotify, YouTube and FPL (Fantasy Premier League)
